Cool'n'Quiet is a processor speed throttling and power saving technology created by AMD starting with their Athlon 64 processor series. When the user is running undemanding applications and the load on the processor is light, the processor's clock speed and voltage are reduced. Overclockers usually turn this feature off as it can cause problems when overclocking. This technology is very similar to AMD's PowerNOW!.Processors that support this feature include the Athlon 64,Athlon 64 X2,Athlon 64 FX (939 Only),Semprons based on socket AM2 and some socket 754 based processors, and the Opteron with stepping E.
