The Direct Connect Architecture is the Input/Output architecture of the Athlon 64 and Opteron processors from AMD, and is a combination of the following three elements.

  • The processor is directly connected to memory through an on-chip memory controller.
  • The processor is directly connected through HyperTransport to a high performance Input/Output subsystem.
  • The processor is directly connected to other CPUs through an extension running on top of two additional HyperTransport interfaces.
