roleldelboc4 Foster was the first Xeon based on the netburst architecture. It was basically a copy of the Willamette but it used Socket 603 which allowed it to run in a dual processor configuration. Like Willamette, Foster had 256 KB cache and a 400 MHz FSB and was made at 0.18µ. Foster was available between 1.5 and 2 GHz. For multiprocessor configurations there was also a Foster MP, which had added L3 cache to make up for the FSB bottleneck.

Foster features:

  • 8 KB L1 data + 12 K L1 instruction cache
  • 256 KB L2 cache
  • Frequency between 1.6 GHz and 2.0 GHz
  • 400 MHz FSB
  • 0.18µ
  • Dual processor capable
  • MMX, SSE and SSE2
  • Socket 603
