Internal Links
Internal links are links which link to pages within the TechPowerUp! Reference Wiki. For example if you are writing an article and "Graphics Processing Units" come up within it, you may consider linking the phrase to the appropriate page within the wiki.
There are several conventions important to this, especially when creating new articles which connect to the link, and may become stubs. For example, if there was no stub, or article, for "Graphics Processing Unit" you may feel the need to create one. In your article you may have used the plural version of the phrase, i.e. "Graphics Processing Units," when creating a new stub for the link however, it is important to put it in the singular "Graphics Processing Unit." So you go and create your new stub, and name it "Graphics Processing Unit," but you still have the problem that in your article the phrase is plural. This is easily solved however, the conventions for adding an internal link are [[Name of page i.e. Graphics Processing Unit]], however you have the plural within your article. [[Graphics Processing Units]] will not link to the same page as [[Graphics Processing Unit]], you can solve this however, by excluding the s in the link like so [[Graphics Processing Unit]]s. When you preview the page however, it will appear the the s is in fact included within the link.
Here are some examples of links. The 2 has been added in order to distinguish from the real wiki article, and has no bearing except to allow this example to occur:
- This link is typed [[Graphics Processing Unit2]], and will take you to the correct article.
- This link is typed [[Graphics Processing Unit2]]s, and will take you to the same article.
- This link is typed [[Graphics Processing Unit2s]], and will not take you to the same page as the others.
If there is a redirect in place the link will end up taking you to the same place as the other two links. However, Redirects must be manually added, and they may or may not have been created yet for any given phrase.
