Land Grid Array technology moves pins from the device package, such as a CPU, and places them on the motherboard. The CPU instead has small contact pads that meet springy motherboard pins. CPUs are migrating to LGA socketing for increased pin densities, notable in Socket F systems, which have 1207 pins.
