The Pentium III is an x86 microprocessor and the successor to the Pentium II. It was manufactured by Intel from 1999 until 2002 using the P6 architecture. It ranged in clock speeds from 450 MHz to 1.4 GHz, and had FSB speeds of 100 MHz to 133 MHz. It used the Slot 1 and Socket 370 formfactors. The early Pentium III microprocessors were very similar to the Pentium II microprocessors, with the most notable exceptions being that the Pentium III introduced the SSE instruction set and a serial number that was embedded in the chip while it was being manufactured. The Pentium III underwent three core revisions; Katmai in early 1999, Coppermine in late 1999, and Tualatin in 2001.

The Pentium III was succeeded by the Pentium 4 microprocessor in 2002.
