Sempron

The Semprons are AMD's budget line of processors. There are Socket A, Socket 754, Socket 939, and Socket AM2 models ranging in speeds of 1.4 GHz to 2.2 GHz. While the socket 939 Semprons were never available for retail purchase, they were available in OEM computer systems.

The Socket A Semprons where rather poor performers, while newer iterations based on the K8 architecture performed much better. In many cases the Sempron would perform very similarly to Athlon 64s clocked at the same speed. This is due in part to the fact that all K8 based AMD processors (Opterons, Athlons, and Semprons) were identical besides the amount of L2 cache, which impacted performance very slightly as the K8 AMD processors had very low memory latency.
